Built a plugin to bulk-backup posts before trashing them — because I couldn't find one that did just that

Ran an Ahrefs content audit recently and got a list of ~60 posts/pages to prune. Wanted to back them up first — each one has its own categories, tags, valuable content, so losing one by accident would actually hurt.

Went looking on WordPress.org and every plugin was either:

  • A full site/database migration tool (way more than I needed), or
  • A "selective" backup plugin with no bulk URL upload, manual title re-entry on restore, and no screen to actually see what you'd backed up

Ended up building my own (I'm the dev, full disclosure): Undelly. Paste a list of URLs, it backs them all up as self-contained JSON records (title/content/slug/taxonomy/featured image), and there's a dedicated Manage Backups screen to download/restore/delete. There's also a setting to auto-backup anything trashed anywhere in wp-admin, so even WordPress's own 30-day Trash auto-empty won't silently wipe something you didn't mean to lose.

It's free: wordpress.org/plugins/undelly

Curious if others doing content pruning have run into the same gap, or if I missed an existing tool that already does this.

AI for WordPress changes

I am having a few websites built by an agency. They are ridiculously expensive. They do good work but before we launch the sites we will have a meeting with their maintenance team to discuss what those fees would look like for ongoing changes when we need to make updates. I have been in this world for quite some time and have had good and bad experiences with monthly retainers for maintenance work, turnaround times when changes need to be made, etc. Does Claude or ChatGPT or any of the bigger AI models do any of this work easily - work like updating photos on a website, adjusting copy, moving things around design wise on a page if the sites are WordPress? Forgive the ignorance, but I have seen so much on Twitter about AI companies being able to code, famously with Claude Code, so assumed I may be able to bypass paying this agency when I need to make changes barring that paying for the AI perform the task isn't more expensive than the agency would charge for changes.

Add videos to your drafts/posts automatically, using blog2video.app's Wordpress integration

Many of you guys have been using blog2video.app to add videos into your ghost posts. Now with the official integration with the WP API you can connect your Wordpress blog.

You only need to add the API token to the Connect Tab under WP

Then you go to create New > make videos via connect > it will search all of your posts publised/unpublished or create a new draft.

After doing so you just pick the usual templates + voiceover, the system will generate a video using your preferences automatically.

Have fun, we love WP ourselves and are glad the community is using our product!

[PROMO] I made a free WooCommerce plugin that lets you watch your store like a shop floor

Hey r/WordPress! Quick disclosure: I made this, so its self-promo, but I'd love honest feedback.

Think of a real shop. You can see whos walking around and whats in there baskets. Online, you usually only find out after they've left. ShopSocket is my solution to this.

What to expect:

A live screen in your WooCommerce admin showing:

  • How many people are shopping right now
  • Exactly which products are sitting in their carts
  • New orders popping in the moment they're placed, with a little sound notifications

No refreshing. It just moves on its own.

What your shoppers see

  • "X shoppers have this in their cart right now" under the price
  • If someone else adds a product you're already holding, you get a friendly heads-up. Like seeing another person pick up the same product.
  • If it sells out while its in your cart, you're told straight away.

The truth

  • It's free on WordPress.org. It needs my free companion plugin, WordSocket, and a free WPSignal account, because normal hosting can't keep a live line open to every visitor.
  • Your store's data is scrambled before it leaves your site, so even I can't read your orders or customer details.
  • The free plan suits a smaller store. Paid plans for bigger stores are on the way.

Here's a 2.5 minute video of it in action: https://youtu.be/BKwID6t_kpQ?si=9IOuDOC9ZAAUB4x2 Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/shopsocket/

Store owners: would you want customers to see that others are holding the same product, or would it put them off, any other suggestions/feedback?

Wordpress Site on Divi: Help! Menu Style Gone!

I'm creating some new pages on a client's (ancient) WordPress site, which is enable by Divi as an editor.

Besides hating my first experience with the Divi platform, I seem to have accidentally removed the styling from the main menu. I've spent hours today trying to figure it out, to no avail.

It looked like this:

https://preview.redd.it/tr2nwo2ei9sh1.png?width=1265&format=png&auto=webp&s=f46ef69d78a23940da33b613c013bff2ad8347ca

But now it looks like this (even in incognito mode):

https://preview.redd.it/g6mca96gi9sh1.png?width=1233&format=png&auto=webp&s=31cd93fa3e50859181f1302d3982b2b494f92f34

I've tried several things like accessing version history (there is none!) and clicking 'CLEAR' in the Divi Theme Options 'Static CSS File Generation' section (including enabling an disabling it), and no go!

I'm hoping this is a simple fix. I'm going crazy here!

Strange URLs in analytics

This morning I was looking at Google Analytics and found a series of pageviews for

/page/2/
/page/3/
/page/4/ etc.

These all seem to load my home page. The source for these is direct, but I can't imagine where they would come from.

I looked back and saw a handful of these in June and early July, then nothing for a while. Then earlier this month it started happening again. Last week there were thousands of them.

Does anyone have experience with this, or any idea what may be happening?

Malheureusement, rien n'a fonctionné.

Can AI coding agents convert a Next.js website into a fully editable WordPress site?

I have a project that was originally built with Next.js, and the client now wants to move the entire website to WordPress.

The main requirement isn't just editing text/images. They want to be able to:

Add new pages themselves

Add/remove sections

Move sections/widgets around

Change colors and images

Modify page layouts without contacting me

Basically have a visual, drag-and-drop editing experience

Manage around 5 main pages

There is also a reusable certificate page template with around 400 individual certificates

My idea is to use an AI coding agent (I'm considering Cursor/another agent) and give it the existing Next.js codebase. I would have it:

Analyze the existing Next.js application

Convert the components/sections into custom Gutenberg blocks

Build the WordPress theme/plugin structure in PHP/JS

Convert the certificate system into a reusable WordPress structure

Work section-by-section rather than trying to convert everything in one shot

Test everything in WordPress and then hand the site over to the client

The client doesn't want a headless Next.js + WordPress setup. They basically want me to deliver a WordPress site that they can manage themselves afterward.

Is this a reasonable approach?

Has anyone used AI coding agents to migrate an existing Next.js site into a WordPress theme with custom Gutenberg blocks? I'm particularly interested in:

What should be built as custom Gutenberg blocks vs. normal WordPress templates?

Should I use Gutenberg, ACF, Elementor, or something else?

How much of this can realistically be automated by an AI agent?

What are the major things that AI is likely to get wrong?

Any recommended workflow for doing this safely?

I'm comfortable with Next.js/React but relatively new to building custom WordPress themes/blocks, so I'd appreciate advice from people who have done something similar.
