Coalition Insurance - advised that anyone using WordPress should move off this platform ASAP

A client of our recently attended the 2026 Health Sector SMB Cyber Resilience Summit Melbourne - https://cx.cybercert.ai/2026-health-sector-smb-cyber-resilience-summit-melbourne#eventinfo

It was organised by Coalition Insurance operates in Australia through Coalition Insurance Solutions Pty Ltd, which provides active cyber insurance and risk management services https://www.coalitioninc.com/au

Apparently one of the Coalition Insurance speakers advised the audience that anyone using WordPress should move off this platform ASAP. They did not make any another suggestion leaving our client confused so they reached out to us for advice since we manage their WordPress site.

While WordPress is not perfect, I want to call out companies like this who make out-of-context declarations regarding cyber security. Telling every WordPress user to "move off the platform ASAP" without nuanced guidance is unprofessional. It will cause nothing but panic, especially in sensitive fields like healthcare.

They also run a blog and have this article about WP2Shell Vulnerabilities

https://www.coalitioninc.com/blog/security-labs/wp2shell-vulnerabilities-exploited-in-the-wild

There is no mention in their formal literature telling millions of organizations to abandon the world's most popular CMS but instead, they focus on proper patching and lifecycle hygiene, which applies to literally any software .

What are your thoughts?

[PROMO] FastOG – Dynamic Social Cards & Link Previews for WooCommerce

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a free plugin we recently published on WordPress.org designed to solve a common conversion problem for WooCommerce store owners: poor social media link previews.

The Problem

When you or your customers share a WooCommerce product link on WhatsApp, Facebook, or iMessage, the default og:image preview usually looks broken:

  • Images get awkwardly cropped or stretched.
  • Crucial details like price, sale badges, or ratings are missing.
  • It looks like a generic web link rather than an engaging product banner.

Existing SEO plugins allow you to set static images, but they don't dynamically overlay real-time product data directly onto the visual card.

How FastOG Solves This

FastOG automatically transforms standard WooCommerce product links into dynamic, high-converting social preview cards.

Key Features:

  • Real-time Product Banners: Automatically embeds the product price, sale discounts, currency, and CTA directly into the preview image.
  • Zero Server Overhead: Rendering happens externally on edge infrastructure (~191ms average latency) cached via Cloudflare CDN — your WordPress server doesn't waste CPU or RAM generating images via PHP.
  • Plug & Play: Zero complex configuration needed. Just activate it, and your social link previews immediately update.
  • Automatic Cache Management: Sends proactive re-crawl signals to Meta/Facebook whenever product details or prices change.

Try it out & Feedback Welcome

The plugin is completely free and available on the official repository:

👉 WordPress.org Link: FastOG — Dynamic Social Cards & Link Previews for WooCommerce

Would love to hear your feedback, bug reports, or feature requests from WooCommerce store owners and developers!

What we learned from tracking GPTBot, ClaudeBot, and Perplexity on live WooCommerce stores

Hey everyone,

Over the last month, I’ve been analyzing access logs and crawler behavior specifically looking at how AI search engines (OpenAI's GPTBot, Anthropic's ClaudeBot, and PerplexityBot) interact with WooCommerce product catalogs.

Since LLM-driven shopping and search is picking up, a few observations stood out:

1. Heavy HTML vs Markdown (Crawl Efficiency)
Product pages with heavy builders (Elementor/Divi) and 60+ scripts get crawled noticeably slower. When providing a clean, token-efficient /llms.txt or markdown feed, the bot hits almost the entire catalog in a single pass without getting choked by server limits.

2. Perplexity relies heavily on FAQ schemas
For product recommendation queries ("best X for Y under $Z"), Perplexity seems to prioritize structured FAQ and product metadata (JSON-LD) over standard paragraph descriptions.

3. Bot Spoofing is real
A surprisingly high number of scraper bots pretend to have user-agents like GPTBot or ClaudeBot to bypass standard blocks. If you're analyzing this, running Forward-Confirmed Reverse DNS (FCrDNS) checks on their IPs is mandatory, otherwise half your "AI crawler" data is just random scraping bots.

4. Revenue is starting to trickle in
By passing native UTM tags into order attribution (utm_source=chatgpt / perplexity), we saw about 8 orders ($800+) across a couple of stores that originated directly from AI chat sessions.

Are any of you currently preparing your store architectures for generative engine optimization (GEO), or are you treating it as standard SEO for now? Curious to hear how other store owners/devs are approaching this.

Edit: Thanks for the thoughtful feedback. To be clear, these were small-sample observations from limited testing, not controlled results, and shouldn't be read as proof that llms.txt or FAQ schema improves AI visibility. Disclosure: I'm the developer of a WordPress plugin in this space (Zoventic GEO). Method and sample sizes to follow if I run a proper holdout test.

WooCommerce users: do you know which WordPress pages or blog posts actually help generate sales?

I’ve been wondering how people track the journey from content to purchase.

Something like:

Blog Post / Page → Product → Cart → Purchase

Do you currently know:

  • Which posts influence purchases?
  • Which landing pages generate the most revenue?
  • Which articles get traffic but almost no product clicks?
  • Which products perform best from specific content?

If you track this already, what tools are you using?

Title: What makes a WordPress website easier to maintain?

One thing I've learned about WordPress development is that building a website and maintaining it are two different challenges.

A website can look great at launch but become difficult to manage if it relies on poorly maintained plugins, unnecessary customisations, or a complicated editing setup.

That doesn't mean using multiple plugins or page builders is automatically bad. What matter more is how well they're chosen, configured, and maintained.

I think a good WordPress setup should make routine content updates straightforward and avoid unnecessary dependencies.

I'm curious how other developers approach this.

Plugin developers: how did you get your first users?

Hey everyone,

I’ve built a free WordPress plugin that lets webadmins disable unused WordPress features like emoji scripts, XML-RPC, Heartbeat and a million other features. But building it is the part I’m comfortable with - getting it in front of people is where I could use some advice.

For anyone who’s launched a plugin, what actually helped you get your first users?

  • Tutorials targeting specific problems?
  • Sharing in WordPress communities?
  • Reaching out to bloggers or YouTubers?
  • Improving your WordPress.org listing?

I’d especially appreciate firsthand experiences: what was worth the effort, and what turned out to be a waste of time?

[PROMO] I built a free WooCommerce plugin that lets customers reserve products for a limited time.

Hello everyone!

I am the developer of Spectral Dot plugin which is a free WordPress plugin that I managed to release this week.

First of all, this plugin was designed to let store owners offer temporary product reservation, also provide a temporary solution for customers that need to think more when they want to purchase an item (luxury or non-luxury).

How Spectral Dot works:

- You are able as a customer to reserve a product for a limited time while you decide whether to purchase it
- Once you do this reservation, one unit of stock is held for you for the amount of time that the administrator set.

- In that time you can add the reserved item to your cart and complete checkout in your account-> Reserved products.

- If someone does not purchase the item when the time expires, the reserved unit is automatically returned to available stock and you will not need to manually update stock levels.

In this version that was released, an account for the customer will be required in order to be able to reserve products.

For more safety for the administrators, we implemented the admin approval feature that will save you from spam requests as you can approve or deny any reservation made (in case this happens, this feature allows you to not reserve a stock until you approve it).

You can test it on your website and see if this will suit your store:

Wordpress.org: https://wordpress.org/plugins/spectral-dot-reservations/

For all the store owners, here are my questions for you:

  • Would product reservations be useful for your store?
  • What concerns would you have about customers holding stock?
  • What features or settings would make this more useful for you?

I’d appreciate your honest feedback about this and I'm here to answer any questions you have regarding Spectral Dot.

Thank you all for your time!

I built the Product Hunt for Wordpress/blogs (free)

BlogHub (bloghub.app) is a community-curated discovery platform for blogs and Substack publications.

It helps readers find great independent writing without relying on algorithmic feeds.

Writers get a place to be discovered by readers who actively look for new voices.

Recommendations come from the community, so quality rises to the top naturally.

static website file BACK to wordpress site?

Is it possible to take static website files from something like Simply Static use that to recreate a word press site? Can the static file data be loaded to recreate an editable version of the site?

Long story short, awhile back I made a website with wordpress and converted it to a static website. I no longer have access to the wordpress site files but still have the static website data. Search results have mostly just been for the opposite - going form wordpres to a static website. Is the opposite possible?

Apologies if this is a dumb question.

I have experience how to make Wordpress sites and i wanna super charge it with AI. There's this Nova mira mcp but is it any good? Can i vibe code an html, and if it looks perfect i tell nova mira mcp to intepret it on wordpress via some mcp out there. Basically i wanna super charge my wordpress process. I have tried nova mira mcp but it sucks. Can we get to a line where we are almost vibe coding a wordpress site and it's as fast and as good as vibe coding a hard code site?

Woocommerce site on godaddy managed wp throwing constant 503s even with plugins disabled

Has anyone seen this? In access log it shows dozens of different IPs from all over the world per second. Possible bot problem? If so, wouldn't they be able to mention?

Not sure what else I should check while I wait for their team?

To soon to consider switching hosting companies? Is it a hard migraton? I need to get back running asap ;(

Protocols for WordPress core & plugin updates

Hey community,

Do you set your core / plugins to auto-update or run them manually?

If manually, how often do you run the updates?

Are you updating everything on schedule or just each update individually once it's available?

Do you always backup before, or just update and hope for better?

How often something breaks on your site (or your client sites) after an update?

Thanks and great weekend ahead! :)

[PROMO] Free, open-source RSS feed importer for WordPress: auto post from RSS feeds as full posts (revived from a plugin abandoned in 2017)

If you've looked for a way to import RSS feeds as WordPress posts, you've probably noticed that most "RSS importer" and "auto post from RSS feed" plugins are either abandoned, locked behind a paid tier, or only pull a title and a snippet.

I took an older plugin, RSS Post Importer (last tested on WordPress 4.7 back in 2017), and brought it up to date for current PHP and WordPress 6.x. It's free, GPLv2, no upsell, no account, and the source is on GitHub:

https://github.com/guylouzon/interq-rss-posts-importer

a ready to install zip file to download, is here:

https://github.com/guylouzon/interq-rss-posts-importer/raw/refs/heads/main/interq-rss-posts-importer.zip

What it does:

- Imports items from one or several RSS feeds as regular WordPress posts, with the full article content or titles only

- Runs on WP-Cron, with per-feed settings and custom scheduling

- Maps each feed to a category, author and number of posts, and can auto-assign categories and tags to your existing ones

- Imports featured images, and has a template tag to put the image inline

- Simple templating for the post body: append your own HTML or text, add a link back to the original item (the source link is saved)

- Duplicate protection, plus pause/resume per feed

- Optional nofollow on outbound links, and an option to noindex imported posts

- Import/export your feed list and settings as OPML or CSV, so you can move between sites

What changed in this version:

- Works on current PHP versions

- jQuery replaced with vanilla JS in the admin

- Tested against WordPress 6.x

Who it's for: a niche news page, a company blog that republishes its own feeds, a deals or curated-links site, or moving content between your own sites. Please only import feeds you own or have permission to republish, and keep the original link on the post.

I'm still working on it and I'd like real feedback: what breaks on your feeds, which settings are confusing, what's missing. Issues and PRs on GitHub are welcome, or reply here.

Looking for help with a Wordpress/Elementor/Theme issue I’m having.

Looking for help with a Wordpress/Elementor/Theme issue I’m having.

Using Astra (free) theme. I’ve made changes to the homepage in elementor and the changes show up when I preview them, but not in an incognito window, so basically they are not being pushed live. I don’t think its an elementor issue because any changes I do to other pages work fine, and I’ve also made changes to the global footer (Astra footer, not Elementor) and again the changes show up across all pages apart from the homepage.

This has only started happening recently, before it worked fine. I’ve tried flushing the cache, regenerating css etc in Elementor settings. Checked the page template, reassigned the homepage to another page but same thing happens, changes don’t get pushed live.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

WordPress vs Laravel — Which Path Should I Focus on for Freelancing and Remote Work?

Hey everyone!

I've been learning web development for about two years. I started with HTML, CSS, and Js, and I'm currently focusing on PHP, with the goal of learning Laravel.

Recently, I started learning WordPress because I heard there's strong demand for WordPress developers in freelancing. Surprisingly, I really enjoy it, especially customizing websites, working with CSS, and using PHP to build custom functionality.

Now I'm struggling to decide where to focus my time.

I'm considering two options:

1. Focus on WordPress development: Learn custom theme and plugin development, WooCommerce, APIs, and advanced PHP, and start looking for freelance clients.

2. Focus on Laravel development: Build a strong backend foundation, learn Laravel, and work toward developing web applications and APIs, while keeping WordPress as a secondary skill.

I'd really appreciate advice from developers who have experience with either or both paths.

Thanks!

i think i'm driving myself insane trying to make a website from scratch. where can i start with custom theming + components for wordpress?

hi. i am an amateur web designer trying to make a magazine website of my own. i wanted to make it on wordpress initially but the bloat, security issues, and my want for this cool ipod interactive component i am still adamant on making happen and my annoyance with matt because i come from tumblr was putting me off. that's why i went with astro: it was faster, had more support for weirder stuff, and was a lot cheaper (i'm not keen on spending more than $5 for hosting monthly for the rest of my life).

as for site content, it'd be similar to other wordpress music mags i've seen (news, reviews, artist recs, photo galleries, team/author pages) and it was a great idea to do it frugally on paper but i think i am slowly driving myself insane with this site as the build problems and arbitrary code problems pile up. i think my solution would either use wordpress as a headless cms for my astro site or just wordpress if i get really fucking tired.

i've never used wordpress myself before, but i do have a background in amateur blog making so all i ask is:

  1. what are the cheapest, least headache inducing, and most customizable ways/resources i can use to make a wordpress blog that will have a lot of posts and authors?
  2. is it possible to use custom typescript components in wordpress or do i have to convert everything to javascript?

example of the component i frankensteined together with typescript and tears

Page publishing issue

Dear experts, I'm a newbie. Could you please tell me what's going on? I have already built the webpage using Elementor, saved it, and clicked on "Publish". However, when I opened the webpage using Google, I found it was still blank, exactly the same as when I first created the page. It seems as if my editing didn't actually get published. The page's publishing time was also at the beginning when I created the page. But when I clicked on "Edit" and "Preview", it showed the already-built website. What's the problem here?🤯
