static website file BACK to wordpress site?

Is it possible to take static website files from something like Simply Static use that to recreate a word press site? Can the static file data be loaded to recreate an editable version of the site?

Long story short, awhile back I made a website with wordpress and converted it to a static website. I no longer have access to the wordpress site files but still have the static website data. Search results have mostly just been for the opposite - going form wordpres to a static website. Is the opposite possible?

Apologies if this is a dumb question.

Any good mcp for wordpress sites?

I have experience how to make Wordpress sites and i wanna super charge it with AI. There's this Nova mira mcp but is it any good? Can i vibe code an html, and if it looks perfect i tell nova mira mcp to intepret it on wordpress via some mcp out there. Basically i wanna super charge my wordpress process. I have tried nova mira mcp but it sucks. Can we get to a line where we are almost vibe coding a wordpress site and it's as fast and as good as vibe coding a hard code site?

Woocommerce site on godaddy managed wp throwing constant 503s even with plugins disabled

Has anyone seen this? In access log it shows dozens of different IPs from all over the world per second. Possible bot problem? If so, wouldn't they be able to mention?

Not sure what else I should check while I wait for their team?

To soon to consider switching hosting companies? Is it a hard migraton? I need to get back running asap ;(

Protocols for WordPress core & plugin updates

Hey community,

Do you set your core / plugins to auto-update or run them manually?

If manually, how often do you run the updates?

Are you updating everything on schedule or just each update individually once it's available?

Do you always backup before, or just update and hope for better?

How often something breaks on your site (or your client sites) after an update?

Thanks and great weekend ahead! :)

[PROMO] Free, open-source RSS feed importer for WordPress: auto post from RSS feeds as full posts (revived from a plugin abandoned in 2017)

If you've looked for a way to import RSS feeds as WordPress posts, you've probably noticed that most "RSS importer" and "auto post from RSS feed" plugins are either abandoned, locked behind a paid tier, or only pull a title and a snippet.

I took an older plugin, RSS Post Importer (last tested on WordPress 4.7 back in 2017), and brought it up to date for current PHP and WordPress 6.x. It's free, GPLv2, no upsell, no account, and the source is on GitHub:

https://github.com/guylouzon/interq-rss-posts-importer

a ready to install zip file to download, is here:

https://github.com/guylouzon/interq-rss-posts-importer/raw/refs/heads/main/interq-rss-posts-importer.zip

What it does:

- Imports items from one or several RSS feeds as regular WordPress posts, with the full article content or titles only

- Runs on WP-Cron, with per-feed settings and custom scheduling

- Maps each feed to a category, author and number of posts, and can auto-assign categories and tags to your existing ones

- Imports featured images, and has a template tag to put the image inline

- Simple templating for the post body: append your own HTML or text, add a link back to the original item (the source link is saved)

- Duplicate protection, plus pause/resume per feed

- Optional nofollow on outbound links, and an option to noindex imported posts

- Import/export your feed list and settings as OPML or CSV, so you can move between sites

What changed in this version:

- Works on current PHP versions

- jQuery replaced with vanilla JS in the admin

- Tested against WordPress 6.x

Who it's for: a niche news page, a company blog that republishes its own feeds, a deals or curated-links site, or moving content between your own sites. Please only import feeds you own or have permission to republish, and keep the original link on the post.

I'm still working on it and I'd like real feedback: what breaks on your feeds, which settings are confusing, what's missing. Issues and PRs on GitHub are welcome, or reply here.

Looking for help with a Wordpress/Elementor/Theme issue I’m having.

Looking for help with a Wordpress/Elementor/Theme issue I’m having.

Using Astra (free) theme. I’ve made changes to the homepage in elementor and the changes show up when I preview them, but not in an incognito window, so basically they are not being pushed live. I don’t think its an elementor issue because any changes I do to other pages work fine, and I’ve also made changes to the global footer (Astra footer, not Elementor) and again the changes show up across all pages apart from the homepage.

This has only started happening recently, before it worked fine. I’ve tried flushing the cache, regenerating css etc in Elementor settings. Checked the page template, reassigned the homepage to another page but same thing happens, changes don’t get pushed live.

Any help would be much appreciated :)

WordPress vs Laravel — Which Path Should I Focus on for Freelancing and Remote Work?

Hey everyone!

I've been learning web development for about two years. I started with HTML, CSS, and Js, and I'm currently focusing on PHP, with the goal of learning Laravel.

Recently, I started learning WordPress because I heard there's strong demand for WordPress developers in freelancing. Surprisingly, I really enjoy it, especially customizing websites, working with CSS, and using PHP to build custom functionality.

Now I'm struggling to decide where to focus my time.

I'm considering two options:

1. Focus on WordPress development: Learn custom theme and plugin development, WooCommerce, APIs, and advanced PHP, and start looking for freelance clients.

2. Focus on Laravel development: Build a strong backend foundation, learn Laravel, and work toward developing web applications and APIs, while keeping WordPress as a secondary skill.

I'd really appreciate advice from developers who have experience with either or both paths.

Thanks!

i think i'm driving myself insane trying to make a website from scratch. where can i start with custom theming + components for wordpress?

hi. i am an amateur web designer trying to make a magazine website of my own. i wanted to make it on wordpress initially but the bloat, security issues, and my want for this cool ipod interactive component i am still adamant on making happen and my annoyance with matt because i come from tumblr was putting me off. that's why i went with astro: it was faster, had more support for weirder stuff, and was a lot cheaper (i'm not keen on spending more than $5 for hosting monthly for the rest of my life).

as for site content, it'd be similar to other wordpress music mags i've seen (news, reviews, artist recs, photo galleries, team/author pages) and it was a great idea to do it frugally on paper but i think i am slowly driving myself insane with this site as the build problems and arbitrary code problems pile up. i think my solution would either use wordpress as a headless cms for my astro site or just wordpress if i get really fucking tired.

i've never used wordpress myself before, but i do have a background in amateur blog making so all i ask is:

  1. what are the cheapest, least headache inducing, and most customizable ways/resources i can use to make a wordpress blog that will have a lot of posts and authors?
  2. is it possible to use custom typescript components in wordpress or do i have to convert everything to javascript?

example of the component i frankensteined together with typescript and tears

Page publishing issue

Dear experts, I'm a newbie. Could you please tell me what's going on? I have already built the webpage using Elementor, saved it, and clicked on "Publish". However, when I opened the webpage using Google, I found it was still blank, exactly the same as when I first created the page. It seems as if my editing didn't actually get published. The page's publishing time was also at the beginning when I created the page. But when I clicked on "Edit" and "Preview", it showed the already-built website. What's the problem here?🤯

[PROMO] I made a plugin to help political campaigns with door to door voter outreach and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts!

Hi everyone, I've just released a plugin called Your Right Campaign Voter Outreach that's designed to help small political campaigns in the US and Canada with door to door voter outreach and Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts leading up to an election!

The plugin allows a campaign to import a CSV of voter data from their local election authority, such as their local county, and use that data to create custom walk lists for door-to-door campaigning. The candidate or their campaign imports the voter data, then creates a list from that data that a volunteer can use to go house to house soliciting support. For the volunteer, the list appears in a custom volunteer portal where each voter's name and address is accessible to them.

As a volunteer walks their walk list, they can mark off each contact along with a relevant status, such as pledged to vote, not home, moved, etc. They can also mark whether a person has received a mail in ballot, voted early, etc as well as leave custom notes for each voter. The volunteer portal is optimized for mobile and designed to be used in the field. Volunteers can also search voters on their list by contact status, vote status and and name / address as well as filter their contacts based on even / odd addresses so one team can split up outreach on a single block.

All voter contacts are logged in real time and each volunteer can log a support score for a voter, indicating how likely a voter is to vote for the candidate's campaign. This tool is designed to make it easy for small campaigns who may be low on funds to easily manage Get Out The Vote efforts for local and municipal races.

Encryption of voter data is present out of the box and the plugin also supports storing a custom encryption key and salt in your wp-config.php file for extra security. Voter data is protected with custom user roles and the plugin makes it easy to set up volunteers who have access to walk a walk list or search and edit voter data. As far as I'm aware, this plugin is one of the only options available for a campaign who wants to truly self-host their own voter data for free.

You can download the plugin free on WordPress.org or learn more about the plugin on my website. I'm also working on creating a manual for the plugin that goes over the whole process of importing voter data and setting up a campaign in more detail.

Free backup plugin

Hell everyone,

I'm looking for a backup plugin for WordPress which can backup to remote endpoints with FTPS/SFTP or webdav. It should support schedules backups and retention periods of at least 30 days.

I did checkout BackWPUp but it doesn't work with my FTPS storage (hetzner).

I have a couple of non commercial websites that are in no way critical but it would be nice to back them up.

I would appreciate any recommendations.

design looked broken after css changes - plugin cache clear wasn't enough

hit this on a woo/wp site and figured it's worth writing down before someone else marks a design task done too early.

i was making design/css changes, mostly on static pages. the layout kept looking broken. when i added a query string to the url, the page looked correct. that usually means something is serving an old cached version.

i cleared the normal caches: browser, private window, wp/plugin cache. still broken. later i purged the server/cdn page cache and the design came through properly.

so the checklist i use now after design-related changes:

  1. check in a private window

  2. clear wp/plugin cache

  3. if it still looks wrong, purge server/cdn page cache too

  4. only then mark the task done

plugin cache alone is not always the full stack. if a query param fixes it but a normal visit doesn't, look one layer higher before rewriting css again.

What do you thing of paying $240 for Radicle for WordPress development?

I am a software engineer with 8 years of experience and I need to start developing webs for some projects:

\- An art shop

\- A beach bar (with online shopping)

\- A clothes brand (with online shopping)

\- A site for a NGO

I may work in other projects in the future if I can keep the web development as a side job.

As other non-technical people might need to manage the site for uploading new products, news, interacting with users, managing contents... While keeping it powerful and being able to implement an online shopping system, I decided that WordPress is probably the best option.

I would like to apply some software engineering techniques to the sites: version control, CI/CD, testing, website for testing, local development, docker (or similar) support...

I have found the bedrocks ecosystem, which feels like WordPress with proper software engineering techniques already built-in. I have found that they already offer a software called Radicle that includes all the tools of the ecosystem, but its usage is locked behind a paywall. I am not sure if this is the right tool and I wanted to know what other experienced WordPress developers think about it, as I am seriously thinking on buying it. The fact that this is closed source code is a big if for me, but I understand that this is part of their business model.

Would you be willing to pay the $240 for unlimited sites when using Radicle? What is your experience with the bedrocks ecosystem, especially when it comes to a solution like Radicle? Do you think that in the long-term is going to save me enough time to make it worth of its price?

I read in other posts that some people consider it an over-engineered solution, but maybe it is better to have an over-engineered solution over needing to reinvent the wheel in each site just to be able to use basic software development techniques.

What do you guys think?

Handling Policies

Hello Everyone,

I'd be intrested in the fact, that how do you deal with the different policies (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Cookies Policy, Complaints Policy, Appeals Policy, Malpractice Policy, Adjustment Policy)?

Do you have own implementations, use plugins or do you handle them on other levels - for example in different contracts?

Thanks in advance,

T.

Is there no simple ad/banner management plugin for WordPress Multisite? 🤔

I'm looking for something that sounds incredibly simple, but I can't seem to find a plugin that actually does it.

Here's what I need:

  • One central dashboard on the main site to manage banners, images, or custom HTML.
  • Ad placements across multiple sites in a WordPress Multisite network.
  • Centralized control — update the content once, and it automatically updates across all sites.
  • Simple integration — ideally using shortcodes, widgets, or predefined ad placements.

Basically, a lightweight ad management plugin, but built specifically for WordPress Multisite.

No complicated ad server, no external platform, no unnecessary features. Just a simple way to distribute and manage promotional content across a network of websites.

Am I missing something obvious?

Surely I'm not the only one who needs this?

Has anyone found a plugin that does exactly this? Or is this genuinely a gap in the WordPress plugin ecosystem?
