The speakerphone paradox

The speakerphone paradox

I was at the pool today when a woman started having a conversation on her phone using the speaker.

I politely asked her if she could not use the speaker and pointed to my headphones.
She said, “I don’t have headphones.”
So I said, “You can just hold the phone next to your ear.”

She looked at me with a completely blank expression and said, “I’m on speakerphone.”
I said, “Well… that’s the problem.”

Apparently, we had reached the limits of modern technology.

I took my malaria pill and gave it to my wife so she could take hers. I am rethinking everything I thought I knew about her.

I took my malaria pill and gave it to my wife so she could take hers. I am rethinking everything I thought I knew about her.

My wife and I are in Africa and taking our malaria pills every day. This morning I took mine first. It’s the one on the corner of the pack. I gave it to my wife and she took hers and handed it back. I have no words.
I am now rethinking everything I think I know about her.

Took a pottery class. Studio insisted on glazing themselves. This is how my work turned out.

Yes, I know it looks like…

To clarify - the studio policy denies students to glaze their own work. It’s not the norm so I have no clue why. Don’t even get me started on the fact that they made the whole class vote on ONE glaze color for everyone’s work

This cost me $225.

They didn’t say anything to me when I went to pick my pieces up. They were just sitting in a box with everyone else’s

UPDATE: these comments helped me feel less like a Karen so I just emailed them asking what happened and how they can make it right. Will keep y’all posted if they respond!

I don’t want to tank their small business so I’m not posting any bad reviews on Google/yelp/etc

The way I need to play a CD I own since (almost exactly) 20 years. Copy protection became listening protection.

The way I need to play a CD I own since (almost exactly) 20 years. Copy protection became listening protection.

I bought that CD a few days and 20 25 years ago. All my new devices can’t read the disk because of a annoying copy protection (DOCdata). As the anniversary came up, I carefully opened my signed issue and put it into my player. It failed to read the disk. So I tried my PC which reads almost all disks usually. Yeah but not this one. Even covering the outer track didn’t work. So I asked my child to use that cheap children’s karaoke-CD-player-device. Started right to play so now it’s connected via AUX to my amp. Sounds pretty good though.

Edit: that Album isn’t on any streaming platform. Only on YouTube at pretty bad quality.

And: it’s been 25 years. Not 20 years.

Also: they reissued that album with no CP copy protection 5 years later.

Edit 5: The album is "Zwei" by "Eins Zwo", a German rap group. Also they reissued that album in 2006 with no copy protection. Who ever wants to know: Reissue, Original Issue, I own

In addition to this: I will not connect that player to my pc and record it via aux. I've done that before and the result was underwhelming. Quite some noise and stuff. That's the reason why I usually try to get all my CDs via Exact Audio Copy to my NAS.

Spent $455 at an NYC steakhouse and was asked to move before we finished because another party wanted our table

Spent $455 at an NYC steakhouse and was asked to move before we finished because another party wanted our table

My girlfriend and I had a 5 PM reservation at Quality Meats in NYC. We asked to move to another seating area and were specifically told those seats didn't require a reservation.

We ordered oysters, a double dry-aged tomahawk, sides, margaritas and espresso martinis and were still planning to order dessert.

Our bill was already around $390 before tip when a manager came over and asked us to move to another table because another party supposedly had ours reserved.

The other party hadn't even arrived yet.

We were still actively dining, and we had specifically been told the seats didn't require a reservation.

Final bill: $455.90.

I've eaten at plenty of higher-end restaurants in NYC and have never been asked to relocate before finishing a meal so someone who hadn't arrived yet could take our table.

The food was good. The way the situation was handled completely ruined the experience.

Came to a wedding late, but still the first.

Came to a wedding late, but still the first.

My family always comes to celebrations first, even though we live far away. For once, we decided to arrive late on purpose, but that still wasn't enough.

Edit: they forgot to bring the rings to the church mariage

Edit 2 : For those who are wondering, we directly went to the ceremony and we came 2 hours after the reception time that was on the invitation

My nail salon fired me for being inactive

My nail salon fired me for being inactive

*UPDATE on Nail Gate HERE

Apparently my nail salon has an attendance policy. Been going here for years, got my nails done for my wedding. Now I’m just trying to get a divorce pedicure…I guess not.

Edit to add: The gift card was one of his final gifts to me this past Christmas. Not expired.

Received these bad parking notes on my 1st and 2nd day at a new apartment

Received these bad parking notes on my 1st and 2nd day at a new apartment

I was confused about the first note, because stall 92 had something other than a pickup in it the first day (the notes are from 92). I parked pretty much identical the 2nd day (when I got the other 2 notes), which is shown in the picture. My bumper is against the wall. I just emailed management and told them to move me to a different spot
