Ordered takeout, found a battery in my food

Ordered takeout through DoorDash, my dad had already eaten his fill and offered some of his order for me to try. I found this battery before I had eaten any. Called the restaurant and got sent to voicemail. Working with DoorDash for a resolution as well. I’m a bit worried that this could have been batch prepped and the whole batch is contaminated. Not sure what to do further but we’re obviously frustrated. That cannot be good for someone to eat.

My boss scheduled a meeting to discuss my “tone” in emails

I’ve been working remotely for about a year now and overall the job is pretty relaxed. Everyone communicates mostly through Slack and email, so it’s not like we interact face to face much. Last week my boss put a meeting on my calendar called “communication improvement discussion.” Which already sounded a little ominous. The meeting was at like 9:30 in the morning, so I figured it was probably about some project update or something I missed. But when the meeting started he pulled up a few emails I had sent recently and said some people felt my tone was coming across “a little blunt.” The emails he showed were literally things like: “Hi, can you send the updated file when you get a chance?” and “Just checking if there’s an update on this.” That was it. At first I honestly thought he was joking. Those seem like completely normal work emails to me. I wasn’t being sarcastic or annoyed or anything, I was just asking for updates. Apparently a couple people interpreted them as passive aggressive. Which confused me because I genuinely had no idea they sounded that way. Then he suggested I try adding more exclamation points or emojis so the tone feels friendlier. So now I’m sitting there writing emails like “Hi!! Just checking in on this when you have a moment 😊” which honestly feels kind of ridiculous. I get that tone is harder to read through text when everyone’s remote, but now I’m weirdly self-conscious about every message I send. Like I’ll type something normal and then sit there thinking “does this sound rude somehow?” Remote work is strange sometimes. Maybe I’m overthinking it but I didn’t realize punctuation was such a big deal.

Email from landlord about appliances being left plugged in and the appliances in question…

Email from landlord about appliances being left plugged in and the appliances in question…

Does anyone actually unplug their TOASTER between uses?

Edit to answer common questions:

  • We pay the utilities separately from our rent! Our landlord doesn't handle the electric bill in any way, shape, or form.
  • They gave us 24 hours' notice before the inspection, which is standard in the US. From my understanding of the lease, I don't think we are allowed to decline inspections. :(
  • Our lease does not state anything about unplugging appliances when they are not in use
  • Our landlord uses a company to manage everything. So we get hit with a double whammy of our landlord's feelings and the company's rules

Thank you all for your input and recommendations! I have learned SO much. After hearing all of the horror stories/general fear about house fires being caused by rogue toasters, I will unplug it between uses (BUT only because I feel like it and not because my landlord told me to 😚)

Bought my kids bikes for Christmas. Local government just passed a law requiring paid bike "licenses" to ride them in public. Cops are now issuing citations...even to kids?

I'm in the U.S. Bought three basic Huffy bikes for my kids this past Christmas from the local big box store. Got three of these in the mail today.

The local government apparently just passed a law requiring all bikes to have paid "licenses" to be ridden in public. When I called to confirm, they said cops have been issuing citations, even to kids.

They also said it was primarily to help with stolen bikes. But...it's a plastic sticker that can be peeled off.

The store apparently fills out the license application "as a courtesy to customers" without asking and sends the info directly to the local government. I asked what would happen if I'd bought the bikes out of state or they were a gift. They said licenses are mailed to the purchaser's address, and if out-of-state, the purchaser would have to "transfer" each license to the actual owner...for an additional fee of course.

My neighbor refuses to pick up his dog's poop from my yard. The neighborhood has united against him.

My neighbor refuses to pick up his dog's poop from my yard. The neighborhood has united against him.

My neighbor (probably in his early 70's) moved in next door about two years ago with a dog. The dog is kept indoors and my neighbor walks him at least once a day. Right away, the dog started pooping exclusively on my yard. Never once picked up. At one point the front portion of my yard looked like it was mud rather than grass.

I tried being neighborly at first. Stopped him while he was walking the dog one day and politely asked if he'd mind picking up after since everyone else in the neighborhood does. Nothing changed. So I started getting a little more passive-aggressive, leaving poop bags in his mailbox with handwritten notes saying "just a friendly reminder to pick up your dog's poop." When that didn't work, I started picking it up myself and tossing the bagged poop onto his front porch.

After about a year with no change, I called the cops. He's now been cited twice. His response? Paid the fines and got a second dog...which also now poops exclusively on my grass. I've pretty much given up on making it stop.

The strangest part is that when he's mowing his lawn or driving by, he waves at me like everything's great.

Our neighborhood is pretty tight-knit, so many neighbors help pick it up when they notice it on their walks. We've also recently formed what we're calling the "dog brigade," where nearly all dogs in the neighborhood poop exclusively in his yard.
