I’m 28M, been seeing a 27F for about a month. We’ve gone out 5 times and things have been going pretty well.

This weekend she was supposed to come over for dinner for the first time. We agreed on 7, but at like 6:20 she texted saying she was outside. I told her I wasn’t ready yet and she said that was kinda the point because she wanted to see what my apartment looked like before I had time to clean specifically for her.

I laughed because I thought she was joking but she actually came up. My place wasn’t dirty or anything, I just had laundry on a chair and groceries still sitting on the counter. She started looking around and said something like “okay this is much more useful than seeing the version you prepared for me.”

It rubbed me the wrong way. I have my life together, decent job, some money saved, keep my place clean etc, so I don’t really understand why I needed some surprise inspection.

She thinks it was funny and says I’m making it more serious than it was.

Am I overthinking this or is showing up early on purpose to catch someone unprepared actually kinda strange?
