How do I design in Wordpress ???

Okay so i just installed wordpress and since i learned on figma and framer (as a designer not a developper), i wanted to play around and just make my little website like i usually do it BUT, it turns out i am very limited on designing anything, I cant change the color palet, the styles (like wtf) on a free plan of a open source software.

I just want to try to understand wordpress design by my own, look for things, find them, make them look good. I dont want to pay for a host or anything either i dont give a shit about publishing my work, i just want to learn how to use it. I also heard about elementor but is there a free alternative

Is there an easy, simple and free way to do that or am i forced to pay at one point.

(I apologise if this question seems stupid or what but first its late and i just can't figure it out man i just want a simple answer)

[PROMO] Need a bulk PNG to JPG & Optimizer?

https://wordpress.org/plugins/imgoptimizer-png-to-jpg/

ImgOptimizer & PNG to JPG helps you reduce Media Library image sizes without changing image attachment IDs.

  • Process JPEG and PNG images in batches.
  • Resize images that exceed configured dimensions.
  • Recompress JPEG images at a configurable quality.
  • Recompress PNG images while preserving transparency.
  • Convert PNGs to JPEG only when no transparency is detected.
  • Process a single image or selected Media Library images.
  • Optionally process new image uploads.
  • Roll back any processed image to its original file, individually or in bulk.

PNG-to-JPG conversion changes the image URL extension. Keep the original PNG until you have checked affected pages, especially when a page builder stores image URLs in custom data.

[PROMO] I built a WordPress plugin that turns your site into a live, disposable demo in one click

I sell WordPress stuff, and setting up demos was always a pain: a separate demo site to keep alive, spam signups, visitors breaking things for the next person.

So I built 'TryDemoWP'. Every visitor gets their own private copy of your site. It deletes itself when the timer runs out, so nobody can break it for anyone else.

The plugin, TryDemo Sandbox Publisher, means you don't have to export or upload anything:

  1. Install it and paste a connect token

  2. Click 'Push'

  3. Get a demo link to share

What it does:

- Leaves out what a demo doesn't need: caches, backup folders, revisions, transients, spam comments

- Never exports `wp-config.php`, so your DB password and salts stay on your server

- Keeps going in the background even if you close the tab

- Shows live upload progress and an estimate of time left

- Adds an optional Buy Now bar and email capture to every demo, with click tracking

Plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/trydemo-sandbox-publisher/

I'd love feedback, especially from theme and plugin sellers. What would make you switch from your current demo setup?

WordPress Meta Boxes back to Old UI

I updated to WordPress 7 recently and the only change I don't like is how the Meta Boxes below the draft now has a pull over design. Earlier, you could simply scroll down and reach the meta boxes.

Now, the meta box section has to be pulled using a bar which is annoying. I like how previously it appeared once I scrolled down automatically.

I went through the code of every plugin I could find that registers Abilities API abilities. 196 do, and 52 of them hide it behind a setting.

WordPress 6.9 added the Abilities API, which lets a plugin register actions (with their own permission check) that AI agents can call. I wanted to know how many plugins actually use it, so I read each one's current free wordpress.org code instead of trusting its readme. This is the state as of 28 September.

  • 196 plugins register abilities. 3,640 abilities between them.
  • 44 register as soon as the plugin is active. The other 52 wait for something first: a setting, a licence tier, or a filter. ACF only loads its Abilities integration once "Enable ACF AI" is switched on. Fluent Forms waits for its own MCP setting, which ships off.
  • The biggest by count: The Plus Addons for Elementor (106), WDesignKit (95), LatePoint (82), Masteriyo (81, conditional), WPFunnels (78).
  • Some names you probably run: Ninja Forms 32, Rank Math 29, Elementor 27, FluentCRM 25, ACF 16, WPForms 8, SEOPress 8, WooCommerce 7, WPCode 5, Yoast 3, WP Mail SMTP 1.
  • I left out 31 plugins that turned out to be AI connectors with their own MCP server, and one that registers nothing.

Disclosure, since it's why I did this: I build Agent Abilities for MCP, a free plugin (500+ installs) whose Bridge exposes these abilities to an MCP client such as Claude or Cursor. Every bridged ability stays off until you enable it. Each call runs as a WordPress user, gets that user's capabilities re-checked, and lands in an audit log.

The full list, with every ability name per plugin, is here whether or not you use my plugin: https://agentabilitieswp.com/bridge/plugins/

Plugin authors: if you gated yours behind a setting, what made you decide to? I'd like to know if it was caution or support load.

Japan's new WordPress sites barely use Elementor (3.7%), and other country differences from 585,887 sites

Hi all, I run StackScope. We crawl newly launched websites and check what they're built with. For our September report, I looked at 585,887 WordPress sites we found between July and September.

In September's crawl, we detected WordPress on about 16% of all new sites. If we only count sites where we could identify a platform, its share was 40.2%.

Across the larger WordPress sample, we found Elementor on 42.2% and WooCommerce on 22.0%.

The country breakdown varied a lot:

  • Japan (12,561 sites): Elementor was on 3.7% and WooCommerce on 0.9%. Cocoon was on 39.9%. It's a free Japanese theme maintained by Xserver, a Japanese host.
  • India (16,573 sites): Elementor was on 65.0%.
  • Vietnam (1,554 sites): Flatsome was on 58.3%, WooCommerce on 49.4%, and Elementor on 13.4%.

Astra was the most common theme we detected in 14 of the 17 countries with at least 1,000 sites in the sample.

We could only estimate a country for about 17% of the WordPress sites, and the method undercounts the US. We also miss plugins and themes that don't leave a visible trace.

If you build WordPress sites in these countries, does this match what you're seeing?

Full write-up, including the methodology

Very important: If you are thinking of buying a website with Adsense up and running!

Hey mates,

I have seen people buying Adsense approved websites which were approved, generating money and receiving multiple payments for months or even years, however when they acquire the site, pay the money and submit it for approval from their own Adsense account it got rejected and wasn't approved for those generic reasons!!

What they should do before finalizing the deal and paying the money?

They should get Adsense approval for that site from within their own Adsense account before closing the deal and paying the money.

Btw, Adsense can approve the same site from more than one Adsense account without any issues. I mean there is no ToS violations at all. So be on the safe side before buying any site.

I thought this could help someone here before it's too late!

Website bookings and Amelia

Hi everyone, I was curious to hear from people about what they are using for bookings/classes? Our agency has used Amelia before and we’re considering integrating it with our marketing automation software. Have you used it? What were your thoughts? If you used something else I’d be interested to hear what it was and how you found it!

Thanks!

WooCommerce Tax

Wanting advice from a WooCommerce expert. If a client wants to sell worldwide, how do you figure out and keep up with taxes for each country? Is there a plugin for that? What should we keep in mind when creating WooCommerce sites?
