documenting old solo code and found a try/except that just silently swallows one specific exception. no comment. no ticket. no context. I wrote this. why did I write this

been the only dev on a backend service for about two years. finally sat down to write proper docs for it today.

found a try/except block in the job queue handler. catches one very specific exception type. does absolutely nothing with it -- no log, no reraise, no fallback. just silences it. there's no comment explaining why. no linked ticket. no slack thread I can dig up. git blame points to a commit message that says 'fix job queue issue' with no further detail.

I genuinely cannot reconstruct what I was protecting against.

if you work solo, please leave your future self a comment. even one line. it costs nothing. I am begging you.

How would you build a Frontend Dashboard for a listing website?

Building on Wordpress using Elementor Pro

A good example would be like the frontend dashboard seen on https://houzez.co/features/front-end-dashboard/

Basically a seperate login area that is made to be a very simple input area

Pagespeed phantom domain

Pagespeed phantom domain

Not sure what to make of this, been making some tweaks on my WordPress site and checking pagespeed as well as other tools for progress and one session suddenly csa.crazygames.com/event pops up?

A burst of panic had me hunting for mailware or something in a plugin that's gone rogue... But nothing.

Subsequent tests it's gone, installed wordfence for a scan, nothing. I tried another page on pagespeed and Microsoft Clarity appeared, subsequently it's disappeared too, haven't had clarity in over a year and that was run in edge cloudflare tag management.

I'm hoping this is some unexplained ghost glitch from Google on that test session?? Anyone able to put my mind at ease or advise what I'm looking at? Never seen anything like it before.

Apologies for the average screenshot.

Update: after 12 hours of fluffing about I am no further ahead, completely unable to repeat the domain instance, unable to find any evidence of code or script in anything thus far. Still searching (db now) but have a feeling I maybe hunting a phantom occurrence. Pagespeed has been timing out today regularly, all instances with internal timeout errors at Google end. Where as any other tool, dev lighthouse included, runs clean with nothing weird. Everything site wise remains flawless and fast('ish by my standards). No evidence of admin manipulation, user or plugin wobbles... It's going to be a troubled sleep night while I second guess myself. Edit: the only other common thread to the instances observed is they were all using my phone doing pagespeed test, desktop is zilch... I doubt very much this has anything to do with anything at all but I'm just going to start yelling at the passing clouds now...

Storing images for blog on cloudflare?

Hi all,
I have a family Wordpress blog hosted on hostgator with lots and lots of images. I am beginning to run out of space (50g) and don’t want to pay a ton extra for their small amount of extra storage.

It seems like switching my storage to a cloudflare r2 bucket and simply paying as I scale up is the best idea. (Even a Tb of images is only $15 a month this way rather than the $100s for only 150G through my hosting)

Questions:
1) is this the way?
2) are there services/people that could help me set this up? (Switching dns servers, setting up sub domains, finding plugins to connect my site, recommendations on methodology, etc) I could do it myself but it isn’t my area of expertise and would much rather pay someone to do it correctly rather than me muddle through and break everything.

Basically want to host all of my images externally and have my site point there.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Variation confusion!

Hi all, wondered if anyone can help?

I am trying to add variations to a product in woocomerce, allowing the option to purchase certain quantities ie 1, 5 or 10,

Then depending on the quantity chosen, x amount drop down boxes to choose between a list of say 20 options ie: quantity 1 so 1 box comes up with 20 different products, or quantity 10: then 10 different drop down boxes come down with the same options in each so products can be mix & matched or 10 of the same item chosen

Only price difference would be between quantities, wouldn’t vary between options within the secondary drop downs…

Hopefully this makes sense?

Thanks

Subo a 180lb

Voy con la 1era nutricionista(en la tarde)

Voy al gym un año

Subo a 200lb

Empiezo la nueva chamba

Sigo en el gym

Subo a 215lb

Voy con la nueva nutricionista(en la mañana)

Me manda a comer fibra

Making a rental website

Here's the website idea I'm trying to create for the business I'm starting. I'm entering the portable toilet industry, and many existing companies are pretty old-school; you have to play phone tag or send an email to order a toilet. I want to create a website that has this type of flow:

  1. Select the toilet you want. 2. Select how long you need it. 3. Select add-ons such as hand sanitizer or insurance. 4. Input info such as delivery address, name, and contact. 5. Select the desired delivery date. 6. Enter payment info and complete checkout.

I would also need to have it so you could only order within a few specific zip codes. I've been teaching myself how to do web design and have been experimenting with different plugins like WooCommerce and Elementor. I'm struggling to figure out the best way to create a website with all of the above features and would appreciate some guidance. What would be the best WordPress plugins to use, and would it be worth it to connect Claude Pro?

Our journey of our Open Source BFA Project

Hello everyone! You've probably seen some of my other posts on this subreddit. I'm one of the developers behind the open-source BFA server, and our team is working hard to build the most stable, community-driven 8.3.7 emulator out there. Beyond the code, we are bringing this world to life on Nazmir, our progressive BFA realm.

Here’s a little update about the progress of our BFA-HavenCore:

  • Started work on the Corruption System (still WIP).
  • Started work on the WoD introduction quests (still WIP).
  • Started work on the Demon Hunter starting questline (still WIP).
  • All professions have been fixed except Archaeology.
  • Fixed 50+ quests for levels 1–19.
  • Fixed 75+ creatures for levels 1–19 (including wrong factions, incorrect unit flags, and other issues with them).
  • Fixed 8+ broken spells for levels 1–19.
  • Removed deprecated quests, game objects, and creatures that were no longer present in BFA for levels 1–19.
  • The Pet Battle System has been fully fixed.
  • Upgraded all dependencies to the TrinityCore master standard (G3D, CascLib, gSOAP, RapidJSON, jemalloc, SFMT, efsw, UTF8, and zlib), and fixed Clang and GCC builds.

P.S. There’s probably some other stuff missing from this list.

However, there’s still a lot of work to be done, and we’re looking for more contributors who would like to help us.

Thanks for all the support! It means a lot to us.

WordPress still runs almost half the internet, here's why it hasn't been replaced yet

A lot of people think WordPress is old news now that there are newer website builders like Webflow or Framer. But WordPress still powers a huge share of websites out there, way more than any other platform.

The reason is simple: it's flexible. You can build almost anything with it, a blog, an online store, a business site, a portfolio, using plugins and themes instead of coding from scratch. It's also cheap to host, and there are thousands of developers who know how to work with it, so businesses can always find help.

The newer builders look nicer out of the box, but WordPress wins on control and cost, especially for small businesses that need something built once and maintained cheaply.

Is WordPress still worth learning in 2026, or should beginners skip straight to newer tools?

reminder: FileBrowser officially dead

Just a quick reminder since I imagine tons of people are still using the service

File Browser is archived on 2026-09-01. The last planned release has already shipped. There will be no further releases, bug fixes, or security fixes.

Should I cancel due to the weather?

Should I cancel due to the weather?

Had a trip scheduled to visit Panama City this coming week, arrive on Wednesday night and depart on Sunday.

The weather outlook isn’t very promising, thunderstorm alert for every afternoon during my stay. My original plan was a fairly laidback trip, to see the canal and historical area, and disconnect from work. But now seeing the forecast, I wonder if it better just cancel it. I’m traveling solo so it’s not impossible to do so.

My questions are how bad the thunderstorm/rain situation will be? And will two non-raining morning be good enough to see the must. And what would you recommend to do during the raining time?

Thanks a lot!
