[DISCUSSION] Do you leave foreign prices as-is or convert them for readers?

14 October 2026 at 06:11

My girlfriend and I run a travel site with an international audience, and one thing we still haven't really found a clean way to handle is prices in different currencies.

I'm not talking about WooCommerce or changing store prices. I mean normal content in posts and pages, like travel guides, reviews, buying guides, resource pages, things like that.

If we're writing about Japan for example, we'll usually keep the actual price in yen because that's what someone will pay there. But if you're reading from the US, the UK, etc. then JPY 20,000 probably doesn't mean much.

We've added conversions manually before, but that gets messy pretty quickly. So I'm curious what other people do. Do you just leave the original currency and assume readers will convert it themselves? Do you add one or two common conversions manually? Or do you use some other setup entirely?
