Is There Still a Future for WordPress Systems Engineers in the AI Era?
I’m thinking about positioning myself as a WordPress Systems Engineer for remote companies.
The idea is to combine WordPress/PHP development with the infrastructure side — Linux, Nginx, PHP-FPM, caching, databases, CI/CD, performance, and server architecture.
Do you think this kind of hybrid role still has a future, especially with AI changing the development landscape so quickly?
For those already working in remote WordPress/engineering teams, is there actually demand for people who understand both WordPress/PHP and infrastructure?
Or is it better to specialize heavily in one area?
Would love to hear some real-world perspectives from people working in this space.
