If our lights are off on Halloween, please skip our house

31 October 2026 at 22:15

Edit: Thanks for the sign, bowl and training tips. We have a bowl and we're working on the dogs. The point isn't how I can avoid the doorbell. It's that a dark porch used to be a widely understood 'no'.

Every year it's the same thing. We turn the porch light off, which is the universal sign for "we're sitting this one out," and every year someone rings the doorbell anyway. Then they ring it again.

Our dogs lose their minds at the door. Barking, scratching, total chaos. I'd love to hand out candy, but it's not worth the stress for them, or the risk of a door opening on a group of excited kids and a dog who wants to join the party.

Dark house means we're not participating. It's not a challenge, and it's not a "maybe they didn't hear us."

Please skip the houses with no lights on. There are plenty of lit up ones giving out full size bars.

An airport employee at PDX tried to steal my suitcase

An airport employee at PDX tried to steal my suitcase

The first photo shows where an airport employee hid my suitcase. They removed one of my AirTags, tucked the suitcase inside an access panel on a lavatory cart, and drove it to the airport perimeter.

I flew out of Portland, Oregon, on Tuesday and checked my suitcase with the airline. It never arrived at my destination. I reported it missing, and the airline opened a case. Each time I called, I was told it would arrive on the next flight.

I had three AirTags in the suitcase. Their locations kept updating, but they were about half a mile apart—which seemed very strange.

After a day without any progress, I booked a flight back to PDX. I drove to the airport perimeter, where two of the AirTags were showing. Apple Find My connected to both, and I could hear their sound.

I found my suitcase inside the lavatory cart. Because I was outside the perimeter fence, I contacted the airline manager, who sent an employee to retrieve it.

Without the multiple AirTags, I might have assumed my suitcase was simply lost. Seeing them in separate locations made me suspicious enough to get on a flight.

The airline refunded my ticket price for the inconvenience.

The candy I won’t be handing out today because my wife called me a creep for being excited about trick or treaters

The candy I won’t be handing out today because my wife called me a creep for being excited about trick or treaters

First Halloween in years I won’t be working so I bought a bag of candy to give out

When I got it out of the pantry to lay out my wife says “ok creep”

went on to explain that a 47 year old man giving out candy to kids is creepy and I should absolutely not be doing that

I lost a costume contest to someone who dressed up as themself😔

I lost a costume contest to someone who dressed up as themself😔

I’m kind okay though, at least I got to show people my craft, but knowing the laziest person won is pretty infuriating. But why scream at the judges in anger as if they would listen. Smile, because I got to show people my cool creation.

My 11 year old nephew bought a bunch of Robux and then lied about it

My 11 year old nephew bought a bunch of Robux and then lied about it

I visited my 11 year old nephew recently to bond and buy him a birthday gift for his VR. I used an IPad his foster parent had connected to his Oculus to purchase the game, and then removed my card information.

Apple later updated my card information on the account when I got a new card, and now he has purchased over $100 in Robux. When I confronted him about it, he said he didn’t know what I was talking about. Shortly after the confrontation, he bought even more Robux before I could change my password and log him out.

I’m trying to figure out how to confront him. He has AuDHD and has had a pretty traumatic life, but he needs to know that this kind of behavior isn’t okay.
