I get that not everyone's a web designer, and it's kinda my job to navigate people. But do some people actually think through their ideas before ringing us?
Like yesterday, a guy rang me about making a website that shows all the properties every estate agent platform has (I'm from the UK, so real estate for some of you). So, like a comparison of estate agent platforms like Zoopla and Rightmove.
I was like, "Have you got permission to show content from Rightmove, etc on your site?" He didn't have an answer. I'm sure Rightmove would really want me to copyright them. Surely someone else would have done this kinda thing already if it was such a great model. I had no idea how he was going to make money from all this. I kindly declined the job, as clients like this always end up causing me problems when their amazing idea doesn't take off.
I am just wondering why grown adults don't think these things through... Like, surely common sense would tell you otherwise.
Also, my marketing material clearly states we design websites for local businesses.
Almost every client brief I get still has one.
5 slides with 5 different offers, auto rotating every 3 seconds.
By the time someone reads the headline it's already moved to the next one. & on mobile people just scroll past it anyway.
One clear offer up top does more work than 5 fighting for the same spot. Put the rest in a row right below it.
But try telling that to a client whose boss wants HIS product on slide 1 too..
