WordPress 7.2 Beta 1 is ready to test

20 October 2026 at 17:31

Final release is aiming for December 8, 2026.

Here's the list of changes:
https://wordpress.org/news/2026/10/wordpress-7-2-beta-1-is-ready-for-download-and-testing/

As a block editor user, I like the more consistent icons, faster admin and better client side media processing support. I still don't know a single person that uses the notes feature though. I also still wish we could set custom viewports for the new responsive settings... maybe one day. The secrets API seems like a great idea too, idk why it took this long.

Overall looks like a solid update to me. Thoughts?

[PROMO] Your WooCommerce Black Friday share image can show the sale

20 October 2026 at 17:15

A shared product link usually gets its title and description from page metadata. The og:image is separate. If that image is just the product photo, the sale may not be visible in the image.

FastOG for WooCommerce generates product images with the current price, original price, and calculated savings. The Black Friday template is included in the permanent free Community tier, which covers up to 100 store items. Paid plans are optional for more coverage and templates.

It uses sample data; the “before” is an illustrative mockup.

I’m the developer of FastOG. The plugin is on WordPress.org. Would you show the discount, the sale price, or both in your product image?

Upcoming Critical PHP security release

20 October 2026 at 17:05

Looks like this could be a nasty one- be prepared to update your PHP installations (or ask your host to). If previous incidents are anything to go by, exploits will be in the wild not long after the patches are released.

The PHP security team would like to give advance notice of an upcoming security release.
It is scheduled for Wednesday, 21 October 2026 at 14:00 UTC.
It addresses two critical vulnerabilities, both rated CVSS v4.0 9.2.
All PHP users are encouraged to prepare now so they can upgrade as soon as the release is available.
We reserve the right to release earlier should details of either vulnerability become public, or should evidence of active exploitation appear in the wild.
Full details, affected versions, and the fixed versions will be published with the release.

We put a summary of what we know (so far) together for our customers, but it might be helpful here too- https://prostack.uk/blog/critical-php-security-update-october-2026/

WordPress Pro partner?

20 October 2026 at 14:01

Is this a thing? I saw an agency refer to themselves this way. I think they mean the 'Automattic for Agencies' partnership but I'm not sure if the 'Pro Partner' is part of this, or they are making this up to try and sound impressive. It seems the 'Automattic for Agencies' is just a referral and discount scheme for using the .com platform. Does anyone know anything about this?

Need Help, Broken Elementor Plugin

20 October 2026 at 13:30

So, We were using the wordpress dashboard to edit our website and make changes. We kept on getting a warning that our php 7.1 or was 7.3 was expiring so we started updating the plugins when we updated the plugin elementor it kicked us out and we can't access our wordpress accounts. It says its been sent to an admin email which we don't know. It keeps on saying critical error and instructions have been sent to the Admin Email. When I search my own account on wordpress it says the user doesn't exist while if i load my website it still shows me the email and I'm logged in and also says edit with elementor but whenever you click any of those at the top it gives you that error

[PROMO] I built a free AI chatbot plugin for WordPress that answers visitors from your own site content

20 October 2026 at 00:38

Hey everyone,

I'm Hamza. I've been building Resolai for a while and it's now on the WordPress org plugin directory featured section. This is my one promo post so I'll keep it useful.

What it does

Resolai adds a chat widget to your site. It's backed by an AI agent that reads your pages, posts and PDFs, then answers visitors' questions from that content. Under each reply, visitors can see which pages it used, so they can check the answer themselves.

Why I built it

Most chatbot plugins I tried had one of three problems. They locked you into a monthly SaaS plan, sent every chat through their own servers, or gave confident answers that weren't on the site at all. I wanted something that runs inside WordPress, uses your own AI key and stays grounded in your content.

What's free

  • The AI agent, trained on your site content
  • Your choice of model through OpenRouter, including DeepSeek, GPT, Claude,
  • Voice dictation, so visitors can speak their question
  • Shows the sources behind each answer
  • Every widget text can be translated
  • A dashboard with all your conversations
  • No messages or chats limit

You pay OpenRouter directly for what you use, with no markup from us. On a a typical small site spends very little.

What's paid

There's an optional Premium version with a WooCommerce skill (product, cartve nudges, a required email before chat and EU data routing. The free version isn't a trial. It works on its own.

Link: https://wordpress.org/plugins/resolai-ai-customer-support/

I'd really like honest feedback, especially from people who have tried other chatbot plugins. What made you uninstall them? What would make you trust an AI answering your visitors?

Happy to answer anything in the comments.

New one on me

20 October 2026 at 11:08

EDIT: SOLVED! It was a server malfunction. From tech support's message to me: "The error was caused by a problem with the temporary storage area on the server. That area had developed an internal error that forced it into a read-only state, which stopped MySQL from creating the temporary files it needs and made the database tools and WordPress login fail.

We fixed it by rebuilding that temporary storage area, setting the correct permissions, and restarting the database service."

Everyone had great advice, and I'll certainly use it all as reference if something similar happens in the future. I've already reset allllllll the passwords and am running scans just in case. But I was able to log in as soon as they made those repairs. The menu reappeared after I deactivated it and then reactivated it again.

Thanks again for all of your help! OP folllows.

--------------------

Hello all, client messaged to let me know that the site menu is missing. I try to log in at the dashboard and can't: incorrect password. Reset link doesn't work. Updating password in phpMyAdmin doesn't work. Password update in cPanel > Wordpress Manager doesn't work. Hosting company tries phpMyAdmin password reset on their end. It doesn't work.

I did have to deactivate Jetpack because that ridiculous math captcha kept throwing an error. I hadn't set the ridiculous math captcha, and haven't seen since I turned it off a couple of years ago. But it was there today. Logs show an update for Jetpack was found on the 16th but I don't have auto-update on for Jetpack bc it always *borks* something. So the update wasn't applied.

Another clue, maybe? Each failed login attempt returns an error message that states 4 login attempts remain. Host's tech support say that's part of the Defender plugin, so I deactivated it. Next failed attempt: 4 remaining.

== EDIT: The host found the Defender script was still running despite me deactivating the plugin so they stopped it. The '4 remaining' message is now gone, but I still can't log in. Remainder of OP follows. ==

I've gone through our files and nothing looks off. No additional users showing in phpMyAdmin. No new pages/content on the site (although the menu is still missing). I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

Gutenberg vs YOOtheme builder

20 October 2026 at 06:39

I gave gutenberg second chance after few years and still cant get into it. what am I missing?

So I’ve been using YOOtheme Pro builder for a few years now for my WP sites. When gutenberg came out I tried it, didnt really like it and kinda forgot about it.

But I keep seeing threads here that gutenberg is the future, page builders are bloated, just use blocks etc. So recently I decided to give it a real second try (core blocks only, no extra plugins).

And honestly... I still dont get it. It feels really clunky to me. Mostly the basic stuff like arranging and moving things on the page:

  • selecting the right block is a pain. with few nested groups/rows/columns I almost always click the wrong one, I basically have to keep List View open all the time
  • moving stuff around. drag and drop works sometimes, sometimes not. and the arrows only move it inside the parent so moving section into another container is just annoying
  • layout and spacing. group vs row vs stack vs columns, content width, wide/full, block gap, padding, margin.. everything is somewhere else. simple section takes way too many clicks
  • responsive. I cant really set different spacing or hide something on mobile without custom css. in yootheme its just normal part of the workflow
  • settings are all over the place. toolbar, sidebar, styles tab, sometimes you need to select parent block first to even see the option. I never know where to look

I know the argument that builders are heavy and overloaded with options. But yootheme is not like that imo, its pretty lightweight, not overloaded and the output code is clean. For me its few levels above in daily use.

And yes I know gutenberg is core, free, no lock-in and will be there as long as WP exists. Switching away from yootheme isnt painless, I get it.

So my question mainly to people who used both:

  • do you feel the same or did gutenberg “click” for you at some point?
  • am I doing something wrong? some workflow or setting that makes core blocks less painful?

Not trying to start a war here, I really would like someone who knows both to convince me lol

Bricks vs Elementor - Is It Worth Switching After 3 Years?

20 October 2026 at 06:32

I've been building WooCommerce stores professionally with Elementor Pro for almost 3 years, and I'm currently considering switching to Bricks Builder.

My main goal is to deliver premium WooCommerce stores with a smooth, Shopify-like shopping experience, clean code, and excellent performance.

I'm very comfortable with Elementor and can build high-quality stores relatively quickly. However, I'm concerned about the heavier code Elementor V3 generates and whether it's still the right choice for long-term projects.

Recently, I purchased Bricks and started building my first WooCommerce stores with it, mostly using AI tools like Cursor and Bricks MCP.

So far, I've noticed a few things:

  • Bricks seems to offer cleaner code and more flexibility.
  • The learning curve is significant, especially after years of using Elementor.
  • Achieving the same design quality takes me considerably longer in Bricks.
  • When browsing the finished websites, I honestly don't notice a dramatic difference in speed compared to my optimized Elementor stores.

I'm starting to question whether switching builders is actually worth the time investment.

For developers who've worked extensively with both:

Is Bricks genuinely worth switching to for WooCommerce development in 2026?

Have you noticed meaningful improvements in real-world performance, maintainability, or the overall shopping experience?

Or can a well-optimized Elementor store deliver essentially the same results?

I'd especially appreciate opinions from developers building premium WooCommerce stores for clients, rather than simple brochure websites.

Performance Issues on my Wordpress website. Is the translation plugin the main issue?

20 October 2026 at 06:04

I am having continued issues on my website www.abbeymachinery.com

The site is quite media bulky but I have recently reduced this a lot and compressed a lot of the images and pdfs.

However I am still getting intermittent 503 errors on the frontend of the website and sometimes on the backend. Talking to the hosting company they are saying the site is hitting memory limits possibly down to the translation plugin on the site. I'm just curious if anyone has experienced this before and ho to fix this?

I’ve spent 2 years building a WordPress page builder around the things I wanted in my Elementor workflow

20 October 2026 at 05:48

I've been working with Elementor for years, and it’s been a big part of my WordPress development work. But over time, I found myself wanting more functionality built directly into the builder instead of relying on separate addons, plugins, or external tools.

So we decided to build Craftor.

After two years of development, we've built a visual page builder with:

  • 72+ widgets included in one plugin, with responsive controls, global styling, and revision history.
  • Global Widgets - update a reusable component once and have the changes reflected everywhere it's used.
  • Theme Builder, Popup Builder and Flyout Builder built in.
  • Advanced form builder with conditional logic, multi-step forms, payment collection, quizzes, and 25+ field types.
  • Built-in automations with 19 actions, including webhooks, Google Sheets, and other integrations.
  • AI-assisted building - generate page sections from prompts and edit existing elements using natural language.
  • Figma import - turn designs into editable widgets instead of starting from scratch.
  • WooCommerce tools for building product pages, shop archives, carts, and checkout experiences.
  • Developer tools for extending the builder with custom widgets and automation actions.

The idea was to bring more of the website-building workflow into one place, rather than constantly piecing together separate tools.

I'm not going to claim Craftor is better than Elementor at everything. Elementor has a mature ecosystem, and we're still building ours.

I'd genuinely like to hear from people here:

What do you wish Elementor did natively that currently requires an addon, another plugin, or a workaround?

And if anyone is interested in seeing what we've built, here's the website: https://craftor.net

I'd appreciate honest feedback, including criticism. We're building this for people who actually work with WordPress, so hearing what matters to you would be valuable.

Que pensez-vous de Babia.to et de leur approche des thèmes/plugins GPL ?

20 October 2026 at 02:32

Is there any good way to easily determine which installed plugins are not used on the site anymore (basically orphaned)?

19 October 2026 at 20:57

I’ve inherited responsibility for a wordpress site. It has a lot of plugins that I have a feeling are no longer used. For security, I’d like to disable and remove any that are not being used. Is there any good way to determine that with some certainty without going through a huge hassle?

How to deal with a theme being removed from themeforest?

19 October 2026 at 16:19

So long story short, I used to run a webzine and used a theme from Themeforest and a couple of addons from Codecanyon, but due to health issues I had to shut it down after a couple of years.

Fast forward 5ish years and I'm eager to get back into it. However, when I log back on to the mentioned sites, all of the themes and addons I bought back then are removed from the marketplace, and theres no easy way of contacting the authors. I can still download them all except for one, but none of them are being updated.

So my question is, how do you guys deal with that? Is that just something you have to accept? It doesn't seem very viable for long-term projects.

PS. I even made sure I bought themes and addons from big and popular authors back in the day to avoid this problem, but guess that doesn't change much.
