A homeboy is trying to hook me up with his sister, but she has 5 kids.

She's really pretty. She has her head screwed on straight. She's funny, and fun to be around. I could see myself with her specifically, but her kids not so much. I went to high school with one of her baby daddies. Dont see myself dealing with him amicably over the next few years. Mostly a vent.

After a year and a half battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer, my fiancée passed away in May. Due to logistical issues we couldn't have her service until today (9/4).

I felt like I was just starting to feel a little more like myself and then we had her service. Now I feel like it just happened and I'm back to day one.

I thought these services were supposed to help with the process but I just feel like I'm a mess again.

Where I work, most people are friendly with each other. 3 months ago, I noticed that this guy Chris always ate lunch alone and nobody ever talked to him. I’ve even heard coworkers joke about him behind his back. I felt bad for the guy, so one day I pulled up a seat next to him in the break room during lunch. He spent all of lunch break talking to me about his hobby, which is working on cars. This is not a subject that interests me in the slightest, but he seemed really happy to have someone to talk to, and I was happy to make him happy.

Over the next few weeks, Chris stopped me to talk every time he saw me around the office. When I got in for the day, when we passed in the halls, and during every single lunch break, he would ramble to me about his cars, his personal life, the woman he liked from Tinder, etc. Just talking and talking all the time. I would try to participate in the conversation, but he didn’t even seem to notice. I spent every lunch hour for weeks just nodding and listening while Chris talked about himself.

Over time I got really tired of this and would make attempts to avoid him. Somehow he always found me. I would try to politely excuse myself, but he wouldn’t take the hint. I would tell him I’m busy, or appear to be in a hurry, or even act like I hadn’t heard him, but nothing would get this guy to stop following me. He would show up at my desk, say something like, “I got a new engine for my car,” and wait for me to respond. And if I didn’t respond with a question, he’d just go “Hey, OP, I said I got a new engine for my car,” until I reluctantly asked him to tell me about it.

On Monday, Chris caught me as I came in (already tired and in a bad mood) and started talking all about catalytic converters and how expensive his vehicles were, and I did my best to just be polite. When he was done talking, I told him that was cool, and started to tell him about the trip I took over the weekend. Ten words in Chris just says “I don’t care” and starts talking to somebody else while I’m mid-sentence.

That’s when I realized, this guy doesn’t want to have a conversation, he just wants some poor sap to talk at. That’s why nobody talks to him. Because he’s just a dick.

Anyway, he spent another 20 minutes at my desk today while I was trying to work and I’m getting closer every day to just telling him to piss off and leave me alone.
