CRM Data: System Restrictions Vs Ease of Use

How do you find balance between system restrictions and CRM's ease of use ? To avoid garbage-in garbage-out, adding validation and rules does make sense, but user demotivation follows soon, resulting is lower adoption of system.

Is it CRM ever a problem or is it always CRM data and Processes

Most companies don’t have a CRM problem, they have complicated CRM data and Processes. Customer relationship can be managed in variety of tool, something as simple as Excel to sophisticated CRMs like Salesforce.

Its not the CRM but "we have different way of doing stuff here" is the core issue. What is your experience, is it the system or data and processes thats painful in your organization.
