Hi everyone!

I've published a plugin called WhatAvatar, and I'd love to share it with you!

After years working on WordPress, I've noticed that, when it comes to user avatars, we don't really have many options. You can use generated avatars, Gravatar, or allow image uploads. That's all.

That’s why I created WhatAvatar. Instead of risky image uploads (innapropiated or copyrighted images) or boring generated ones, WhatAvatar lets users build their own avatars right on your site.

But there's another idea I wanted to explore: giving avatars a purpose beyond just looking good.

Then is when I added the concept to lock avatar parts behind goals. Whether it's completing a course, spending points, or making a purchase, users can unlock exclusive items for their avatars.

This turns avatars from an afterthought into an actual reward system, giving users a new reason to interact with your site.

I'd love to hear what you think! Do you think customizable + unlockable avatars could bring something interesting to the WordPress ecosystem?
